Drew (the Brit) and Jen (the Baker)

The Brit and the Baker

They say everyone has a story. Well, ours spans 1/4 of a century and two continents.

Meet "The Brit": Drew was born in Plymouth and lived in England for the majority of his life...with just a short holiday abroad of 18 years.

And..."The Baker": Jen was born in Nashville, TN (USA) and lived the majority of her life in the most Southern Northern state...Indiana.

Paington Pier - 2024

We met at the end of 2000 in a Yahoo! chat room...yes, we met online, and no...neither of us is a serial killer although we both like true crime and especially the dark comedy series, Dexter.

Drew made several trips to the States to see me, and our relationship did not start off smoothly. On the day Drew returned home to the UK after his first trip, we sat in horror, with millions of people all over the world, and watched as the plane hit the second tower...11 September 2001. Needless to say, the subsequent trips were not without incident and, after another three visits, he simply never went home. That was July 2002. We married on the spur of the moment, filed for a change of immigration status, applied for and received his green card and, later in December 2016, Drew was sworn in as an American citizen. A role and event he has never taken lightly. He remains a dual citizen to this day.

Unfortunately, in 2014, Drew sustained a brain injury that eventually led to a return to England in November 2020...deep in the pandemic.

We spent the next 3.5 years on two separate continents. I do not recommend this at all. It wasn't fun...or easy.

Two visa applications, 4,000 miles, 3.5 years, thousands of dollars, and more paperwork than I care to shake a stick at, I was approved for my spouse visa and relocated to Ivybridge, Devon, UK in March 2024.

This chapter of our story has just begun! Buckle your seatbelts...it's gonna be a bumpy (but, oh so FUN) ride!!!
